Planets & Building

Planets are the economic backbone of Interstellar War. Colonise them, build infrastructure, extract resources, and fuel your faction's war effort.

Colonisation

To claim a planet, you need:

  1. A ship fitted with a Builder module (type 6)
  2. To fly within range of an unclaimed planet
  3. Activate the builder module to begin colonisation

Once colonised, the planet belongs to your faction and you can begin constructing buildings.

Buildings

Buildings are constructed on colonised planets. Each planet has limited capacity determined by its size.

Building Resources

Three core resources govern your planet's capability:

Resource Purpose
Workers Limits how many production buildings can operate
Power Consumed by buildings. Insufficient power disables them
Size Physical space on the planet. Determines total building capacity

Building Queue

You can queue up to 5 buildings at once per planet. Each building upgrade takes time, scaling exponentially with level. Higher-level buildings are significantly more expensive and time-consuming.

Demolishing

Buildings can be downgraded (demolished) if you need to free up space or power. Demolition also takes time.

Resource Production

Buildings produce various resources:

  • Minerals — raw materials, harvested from planets
  • Workforce — population that powers your buildings
  • Power — energy to run industrial buildings
  • Research — contributes to faction-wide advancement

Production Chain

The full production pipeline:

Raw Minerals → Refining → Components → Ships / Items
  1. Mine raw minerals from planets using miner modules or mining buildings
  2. Refine raw minerals into usable materials at starbase production facilities
  3. Craft refined materials into modules, components, and ships

Planetary Defence

Planets can have weapon buildings that automatically fire at hostile ships:

  • Defence batteries engage enemy ships within range
  • Higher-level weapon buildings deal more damage with better tracking
  • Planets can only be attacked by ships with bomb modules
  • You cannot bomb planets belonging to your own faction

When a planet's health reaches zero, it loses faction control and its terraform state resets.

Tips

  • Balance workers and power — a planet full of production buildings with no power does nothing
  • Upgrade incrementally — high-level buildings take a very long time to build
  • Defend valuable planets — weapon buildings buy time but won't stop a determined fleet
  • Spread your infrastructure — don't put all your production on one planet
